Worldwide Sport Supply Response:There is no easy answer to that, since each shoe brings different benefits to the table. The Gable is certainly one of our most POPULAR shoes, and wrestlers love the old-school style and say it is the best fit. But it is a simple shoe with no technological features, and at 10.4 ounces, the Gable certainly isn't the lightest shoe. Other wrestlers say that the ASICS Aggressor has more to offer features-wise, and has better ventilation, plus at 8.4 oz, it certainly is lighter. Another popular shoe is the ASICS Split Second which has a two-piece sole for better flexibility. As with most things, it will come down to your personal preference in style and features.
If I am a size 11 and I get an 11 1/2, will it be too big? Does this shoe fit smaller?

These are awesome shoes, only problem I have seen is some of the soles don't seem to have enough glue on them and they peel off others seem to last forever maybe they changed the type of glue used? Also see that they are making the white with black stripes again?

While the shoe is meant to fit tightly, remember that your feet are still growing fast, and your shoe size will change very quickly. If you are looking to purchase this shoe, I would consider waiting until it is closer to your wrestling season, that way you'll have a better idea of what size you will need at the time.
I've always liked these shoes. I've read on other comments that Asics is "not going forward with the new Gable shoes." Does that mean that this is the last year they will make them altogether or will they make them again in the future?

I got these shoes just before my first tournament and I originally was a little leery of the no padding but as the tournament progressed I couldn't believe how comfortable they are. A full season later and these things are still going strong. I love em!

Do you think that these are going to be a pair of shoes that will only go up in value? Or will they be worthless in 10 years?
Worldwide Sport Supply Response: There is no way to be sure that shoes will go up in value over time. This version of The Gable is not designed with the intent of being a collectors item, however if you search through sites like Ebay and even Flickr, you will see there is a market for classic wrestling shoes. Which ones increase in value though are impossible to know beforehand.
I read you can only wear the shoes on the wrestling mat, so if you jog on the gym floors and go walking around on gym floors, that might be why soles come off. Most guys probably aren't going to put on and take off shoes on the wrestling mats though.

Can someone tell me what the new colors that we voted on are going to be ?
Received these shoes as a gift. They look and feel great. I wear them in practice with no problems. The sole is much more cushy than I was expecting. One problem I've noticed is that the upper material, since it is leather rather than a suede/soft material, likes to grip the mat when doing certain moves. This may go away with time and wear. The only other thing that would make them better is to bring back the white/black combo.
When are we going to know what the new colors for this product are?

I'm looking for the black and gold in size 8 1/2. When will you guys restock on them? I understand the new colors will be shipped by fall but is it the same for the old colors that are currently out now?
Worldwide Sport Supply Response: The only Gable shoes being restocked in the spring are the royal/Scarlet/White (USA) color which are estimated to ship in April. All other colors won't restock until next season. Pre-orders will begin sometime in late summer. The Gable is a very popular shoe so we suggest getting a pre-order in as soon as they are available to lock in your pair.
Nobody ever talks about the grip in their reviews! Do they grip well? Is the sole more gummy or rubber like? Anybody know?
Worldwide Sport Supply Response: The grip feels like the same material as most of ASICS' current shoes. An old-school, simple outsole that is not technical, yet is tried-and-true. If advanced grip is a higher priority, the Cael, Dan Gable Ultimate, or Omniflex may suit you better. Aggressors are also known for outstanding grip, as long as the mat does not get wet.
This shoe makes you look super fly, but the only thing that I personally didn't like about them is that the leather gets wrinkled very fast. If you were to get these you would only really want to wear them on weekends or only certain duals in high school.
Worldwide Sport Supply Response: In fact we only suggest wearing these shoes on the mat, not only to protect them but for numerous sanitary reasons as well. Wearing the shoes off the mat can pick up bacteria that you then carry into a match and can cause skin infections and other issues. Use a regular pair of sneakers for when you are not on the mat, or you could always get a pair of Shoe Skins to slip over your Gables to protect them too.

These shoes are sick. They are the best wrestling shoes out there for good looks and they are super light weight so you are twice as fast as any other wrestling shoe.

These are awesome and plan to order the new colors that come out but the manufacturer needs to glue the edges of the sole better, they tend to get chunks ripped off in a short amount of time around the edges.

I wrestled in these back in the 90's in college, love them. Anyway, I bought the size 9 (black & gold) and when they are on I can put my thumb between my big toe and the end of the shoe (so I think they are an inch too big). My question is will the 8 be too small and should I say with the 9? My foot is a little wide not too bad but if I go with the 8 will it rip apart? I like my shoes to feel like slippers I am apprehensive of the extra inch. Let me know what you think, thanks.
Worldwide Sport Supply Response: The Gables seem to be running a bit tight on wrestlers with wider feet. We would not recommend going a size smaller as this will likely lead to some damage. It would be best to stick with the pair you have, or exchange them for another style. The closes fit may be our ASICS Aggressors or Omniflex Pursuits.

Great shoe. I have been reading, and people been saying that they rip easily. Luckily, mine aren't torn or anything only because I don't practice with them. So if you want them to last, don't practice in them. That's when you really wear out your shoes. So use your freshman shoes... Otherwise, great shoe!

I was thinking about getting these for christmas just to have another pair of shoes that are awesome! But before I make a commitment I was curious as to how durable they are? I hear some people say they rip pretty quick and others saying they never do, so I was looking for manufacture's advice?
Worldwide Sport Supply Response: Once in a while there is a legitamite manufacturing defect, in those cases they can be returned for a replacement or a refund. However, these shoes are made to be very minimal for a "barefoot" feel on the mat. Some wrestlers wear these shoes to class, on the street, or outdoors and that rapidly degrades the materials. In such cases, the shoes can't be returned for a replacement or refund. We recommend proper care of shoes to increase durability. This includes finding ways to wear them ONLY on the mat and nowhere else.

Worldwide Sport Supply Response: If you wear a Size 8 gym shoe, you should order a Size 8.5. Wide feet could be OK. If you size up more, the shoe will be too long. Try them on, and if they don't work, simply return them for an exchange or refund. ASICS Split Second Wide is a go-to option for wide feet.

Love this product. It took a little bit to get used to the high ankle support but once I didn't it wasn't a problem. It is a great shoe that is extremely comfortable, I stopped wearing them for practice after about a week of breaking them in just so they would last longer although they haven't been wearing too bad yet.
I was wondering how much do they weigh?

Worldwide Sport Supply Response: That is an incorrect date, and thank you for catching it. The shipping date of those shoes won't be until sometime in April next year. We will get that updated as quickly as possible.
I am wanting to order the all black Gables size 8 1/2 or 9 will you guys be getting more shipments for those and if so can i pre-order them now?
Worldwide Sport Supply Response: The All-Black shoes should be arriving soon. Shipping with ASICS has been the most difficult on this color. Once in, a good chunk are already claimed by pre-orders, but for a short time most sizes should have some availability. Our suggestion is to place your order on the web now, and if the shoes are available they will be sent right out to you on arrival. If they are not available you will be contacted regarding any options available. This is a very popular shoe with a limited stock made, and we are glad there is so much interest.
These shoes look sick. Do you know when the poll will come out about the possible colors and do you know any of the possible colors?

My son was very excited to get these wrestling shoes. Season practice has started~matches will start later in November. He really likes the "old school" style and the black/gold color is his high school colors.
Son picked them out and loves them. Order was processed and delivered promptly.
I just ordered my second pair of the Dan Gable all leather Wrestling shoe Black with gold stripes. These are so comfortable I just couldn't resist. I have to admit I am using the second pair to drive my 1967 jaguar E type convertible which is also black. The quality in this shoe is all the way and I must add my sales girl was very polite and fun you guys at WWSS rock. Thank you again for the old school shoe they are perfect.

yea im soooooooooooooooo aggresive about these shoes right now, i ordered this 5 months ago and the all black still havent come, get back to me. and everytime i try to post something on here it never goes through, this customer service is horrible.

The new colors that just came out are amazing. Why are the shipping out in April? That is my school color and I want them sooner. I will be pre ordering those for sure.
Worldwide Sport Supply Response: Glad you like the new USA color option. We created this mockup to coincide with the 2012 Olympics, and they won't be going into production until early next year. But place your preorder and as soon as they come in from ASICS we will ship them off to you!
Worldwide Sport Supply: We are VERY HAPPY to announce that The Gables have shipped from ASICS. We should have the product checked in to our warehouse and out to the preorders by Friday, 10/21. This is for the Black/Metallic Gold, Royal/Silver and Scarlet/Metallic Gold colors. We do not have information yet on the ALL BLACK versions of the shoe, but as soon as we do we will let everyone know!

Now im really pissed your catolog says October well its almost wrestling and that means November so October is almost over and your catolog was incorrect. Give me the number for the shoe comp. and I'll call them this is just rediculous.

Our catalog is produced months in advance of it actually being mailed, so the information we put in it is based on what the manufacturer is telling us at that time. Months ago ASICS promised the Gables to be delivered by the beginning of October so that is the date we published. Currently they are telling us the shoes are ready to ship, we just do not have CONFIRMATION of it yet so we are putting the ESTIMATED date of October 20th on our site. We call and write ASICS every day regarding these shoes.
This is most likely one of the most popular shoes made and sold. For every one pair someone didn't like or the shoe didn't hold up, there are 100 pair that did and were loved. People only tend to say something when they have a problem so thats why it seems a lot of people are having issues with the shoe. Best shoes I've ever owned since the 80's. I still have every pair I ever purchased and I've had no issues with any of them tearing up. You can't buy a finer shoe.

Agree...I would probably buy another pair if they would ADD A LACE COVER. Bought a pair of these last year. Agree with the reviews below. Great looking shoes but scuff up very easily. Only wore to 2 practices and they look as if I wore them all season. Obviously I'm on here looking at the them again so if they added a lace cover would probably buy another pair.

otherwise an awesome shoe and im getting another pair anyway. I dont know about other states but you cant wrestle without your laces secured in mine. To do this I had to tape them up every time. Not a big deal but lace covers would be awesome
These are very comfortable and stylish shoes. They have a great grip on the bottom and a good sliding surface on the top. Unfortunately, they rip very easily or at least they did for me so I recommend that you only wear them for matches.
These shoes are awesome I let a friend borrow them and they got stolen/lost??? But I only want the all white version wish they would bring it back. "If its not broken don't fix it"
I have an all white version (the Asics symbol was black) of these I got three years ago. I love the fit, grip, durability and overall performance. Mine are, unfortunately too small now and it would be great to get a new pair of these classics. If only the price was lower

Bought the all black pair. they're still in the box. bought the red, black and white pair as well. Great once the leather gets broken in, but already wore a hole in one of the toes.
Great shoes, Soft leather, And they get softer the more you sweat in them. No problems with any of the pairs I ordered. I love them, great colors. glad to see some old school come back
The leather on the shoes are really soft, they fit to your feet very well. They do scuff up easy but other than that, they're great!
I had a YELLOW pair of these same shows, release several years ago. These are GREAT looking shoes, but they do not hold up. They look great, but do not perform great. The leather will chip like paint, and the sole will peel and fall apart. BEWARE.

A great retro classic..I wish they would of made all ten color combos
i got the shoes, they held up pretty good for a few days. once the season started the soul was tearing and the leather started to dis color. i have red and white shoes instead of red. they are comfy though. i would not recomend these because they arent as durable as other shoes i have had.
The shoe at first was very comfortable. I got them because i thought the leather would not rip and tear like paper like those other crappy shoes. On the first day of practice about an hour through, BOTH of the trims around the heel were torn. not just coming off a bit, i mean two inches of trim completley torn off. If it was just one shoe ide say i got a lemon, but both? Does not seem like 90 dollar wrestling shoe quality to me.

My shoes just came in a few days ago, and i already love it! fit you nice an snug.. just a great shoe. good looking shoe as well.. only complain is the ugly colors. to be simple, i just got blck/blck. added some white shoe laces... looks nice:)

At first very tough and stiff. But once you get some sweat in that leather and stretch it out a bit, it becomes the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. This is a great shoe.
Very comfortable, fits like a glove. Great looking and great for gym workouts. I like the solid sole.
